I strongly support National Wild and Scenic River designation for the North Fork and main stem of the Mokelumne River. Please join me in supporting federal legislation to protect the Mokelumne for generations to come.

The Mokelumne is important to the people and economy of the Sierra foothills. It’s also an important Delta tributary. The river provides clean water for more than 1.4 million people and agriculture as well as power for more than 125,000 homes. The remaining free-flowing reaches of the upper Mokelumne should be protected to balance the river’s development for water and hydropower. National Wild and Scenic River designation would protect the rich cultural and historical resources of the Mokelumne River canyon. The designation would preserve the river’s important wildlife and fish habitat and benefit the recovery of the state’s iconic salmon and steelhead fisheries. The Mokelumne Wild and Scenic designation would ensure that anglers, paddlers, campers and families can enjoy the river for generations to come. It would protect riverside property owners from the threat of eminent domain from reservoir construction or expansion, and increase their property values. And it would allow Sierra foothill counties to take best advantage of the river as an economic development resource. Please stand with your many constituents who support National Wild and Scenic River designation for the Mokelumne River.
