Some of our great 2014 Moke cleanup volunteers
Foothill Conservancy wants to say "Thank You" to the many volunteers who turned out for our 2014 Mokelumne River Cleanup on September 20. Volunteers removed hundreds of pounds of trash and recyclables from the river along Electra Road at Big Bar and upcountry at the North Fork crossing at Highway 26. This year's "weirdest trash" as voted by volunteers? A whole coconut with black and white sesame seeds and some exotic seeds (maybe chia) wrapped up in a cloth!

Trash cleaned up from the river ranged from beer and soda cans, broken glass, clothing, barbed wire, assorted paper, and hundreds of cigarette butts. Removing this trash makes a huge contribution towards keeping the Mokelumne’s water clean and its environment safe for the many people who visit the river for its recreational opportunities and its simple beauty.

This year’s volunteers included members of the Foothill Conservancy, concerned citizens and local high school students. Special thanks to Cecily Smith, Carolyn Schooley and Reuben Childress for being our site supervisors.

We'd also like to thank this year's cleanup sponsors for providing niceties and necessities for this year's cleanup: Aces Waste Services, Martell Safeway Starbucks, Munnerlyn’s Ice Cream, New York Fitness, Pine Grove Market, Pine Grove Star Donuts and Argonaut's Home Economics class.
