Mokelumne Wild and Scenic River designation passes one-year anniversary, new t-shirts available

June 27, 2019, was the first anniversary of the Mokelumne River's designation as California's 15th state Wild and Scenic River. While those of us involved in securing the designation celebrated the date, it largely went without public notice. And that's not such a bad thing.

For decades prior to the passage of the legislation, wild and scenic opponents made many false claims about what permanent protection of the river would do to local water supplies, homeowners, and river users. And of course, a year after 37 miles of the river were permanently protected with state designation, not one of those predictions has come to pass -- and they never will.

Instead, Wild and Scenic designation is doing what we always knew it would: Keeping the river as it is for people to use and enjoy while stopping the construction of new dams.

We are grateful for the support of so many individuals, officials and businesses who helped protect our "River for Everyone" for generations to come.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the river's designation, we have a new line of Mokelumne Wild and Scenic t-shirts. In addition to the earlier light blue and black versions, we now have beautiful moss green and brown Ts as well as ladies' cut v-neck shirts (which run rather small). The new Ts feature our Mokelumne Wild and Scenic logo on the back and a small salmon image on the front with "We Saved the Moke! Our California Wild and Scenic River." The shirts are made of organic cotton fabric.

You can order our original t-shirts (limited supply) and the new shirts, along with Kleen Kanteen Wild and Sccenic Mokelumne stainless pint cups and FC caps on our website. They make great gifts for the river-lovers in your life!
