Fall Mokelumne River Cleanup Nets Trash
Two groups totaling sixteen volunteers cleaned three sections of the Mokelumne River last October: the Electra Run, the swimming hole area off Hwy 26 on the Amador/ Calaveras border, and the Middle Fork between West Point and Railroad Flat. While the Electra portion of the river was relatively clean, the day’s work netted about 500 pounds of debris, including several tires. Event coordinator Kim Still of Sutter Creek appeared with James Coyne of West Point on local cable channel TSPN to promote the event.

The volunteers were aided in their task by coffee, donuts, water, and trash bags donated by local merchants. The Bureau of Land Management provided a hard-working staff member, a truck, and trash disposal for the Electra Run. Another cleanup is being planned for this year, on Saturday, September 22. For more information or to volunteer, contact Kim at 267-5652.
