Amador County General Plan Update
Plan status update, April 2020
In late March 2018, the Foothill Conservancy and County of Amador reached a settlement of the Conservancy's general plan lawsuit. That settlement required the county to take certain actions to address what we felt were shortcomings in the plan.

Read more about the settlement agreement.

In September 2018, the county took the first actions required by the settlement agreement by (a href="http://www.foothillconservancy.org/pages/focus1.cgi?magid=60&magiid=838">adopting zoning code amendments.

In March 2020, the Amador County Planning Commission voted to support an outdoor lighting ordinance (dark-sky ordinance) required by the settlement. The board of supervisors is expected to act on the ordinance sometime after the COVID-19 gathering restrictions are lifted.

The final actions required by the settlement are pending.

Plan update will shape the future of the county for decades to come.

The general plan is the "constitution" for local development and conservation in California. Every local land use decision must be consistent with the city or county general plan.

In early 2018, Foothill Conservancy and the County of Amador reached a negotiated settlement of the Conservancy's lawsuit challenging the general plan. See our press release for more information.
